The rules that apply when you use the ExplainStats add-on and this website, in plain language.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
These terms apply to the ExplainStats add-on for Google Sheets (the “add-on”) and to the website explainstats.com (the “site”). The publisher is identified in the legal notice. By installing or using the add-on, you accept these terms. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the add-on.
2. The service
ExplainStats adds statistical tools to Google Sheets: it analyses data you select, writes result tables and charts into your spreadsheet and explains the results in plain language. The add-on runs inside Google Sheets and depends on Google's services, which are governed by Google's own terms.
3. Free plan, Pro features and the launch offer
- The free plan, which covers the classic statistical tools, is free with no time limit.
- Pro features are free for everyone until January 31, 2027 (launch offer).
- After that date, Pro features may require a paid subscription. The prices shown on the site are planned prices. The subscription terms (price, billing, cancellation and, where applicable, your right of withdrawal) will be published before any payment is requested.
- Nothing will ever be charged without you explicitly subscribing. If you don't subscribe, the free plan keeps working.
4. Acceptable use
- Use the add-on in accordance with the law and with Google's terms.
- Don't try to disrupt, reverse-engineer for malicious purposes, or bypass the limits of the service.
- Academic integrity: respect the rules of your school or university. ExplainStats helps you understand statistics; it is your responsibility to use it where it is allowed. Teachers can use exam mode to hide explanations during tests.
5. Accuracy of results
We test ExplainStats extensively against reference software (SciPy, R and textbook examples). Even so, no software is free of errors, and a statistical result is only as good as the data and the test chosen. The add-on is provided “as is”. For decisions with important consequences (medical, financial, legal or scientific publication), check your results and, if needed, ask a qualified statistician.
6. Your content
Your spreadsheets and the results created in them belong to you. We claim no rights over them, and we don't have access to them (see the privacy policy).
7. Our content
The add-on, its code, its texts and explanations, the site, the guides and the ExplainStats name and logo are protected by intellectual property law. You may quote short extracts of the guides with a link to the source. Any other copy or reuse requires our written permission.
8. Availability and changes
We aim to keep ExplainStats available and working, but we can't guarantee uninterrupted service, especially when Google changes its platform. We may improve, change or discontinue features. If we discontinue a paid feature, subscribers will be informed in advance and treated fairly.
9. Liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect damages, loss of data or loss of opportunity resulting from the use of the add-on or the site. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or the rights you have as a consumer.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. For important changes, we will give notice on the site before they take effect.
11. Applicable law
These terms are governed by French law. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live. Before any legal action, please contact us so we can try to find a friendly solution.
